Tech Student Arrested and Expelled Following Confrontation at Charlie Kirk Vigil

Texas Tech Student Arrested and Expelled

An 18-year-old Texas Tech student was arrested and expelled after a video showed her making disruptive remarks at a campus vigil.

The incident occurred during a vigil held for Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist. The video shows Camryn Giselle Booker shouting at students, allegedly yelling, "F--k y’all homie dead, he got shot in the head." The vigil was reportedly in response to a hoax about Kirk's assassination.

Texas Tech Police arrested Booker on one count of simple assault, a Class C misdemeanor. A police statement confirmed the arrest took place "on the west side of the Student Union Building (free speech area)." Booker was transported to the Lubbock County Jail and later released after posting a $200 bond.

The university confirmed that Booker is no longer enrolled. In a statement, the school said, "Any behavior that denigrates victims of violence is reprehensible, has no place on our campus, and is not aligned with our values."

The viral video captures an escalating confrontation between Booker and a group of students. A man wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat pans his camera toward her, saying, "Evil is real, people, and it kind of looks like that." When he asks why she is being hateful, she turns her phone on him and repeatedly asks, "Why are you so hateful?"

The exchange continues with Booker telling a woman, "I’m not being emotional, ma’am... You could get out of my face 'cause I can tell you what you are, but you won’t like it." She then adds, "You’re calling me aggressive because I’m a Black woman."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott weighed in on the incident, sharing a photo of Booker's arrest on X and writing, "This is what happened to the person who was mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Texas Tech. FAFO."
